Hannes, my dear – you old rake and jack-of-all-trades! Do you know why everyone in this photo ‘from the album of your estate’ is in such a good mood? I'll tell you: because you just ‘walked across the room’! // Hannes, mein Lieber – Du alter Schwerenöter und Tausendsassa! Weißt Du, warum alle auf diesem Foto “aus dem Album Deines Nachlasses” so gut gelaunt sind? Ich sags Dir: Weil Du gerade eben “durch den Raum gegangen bist”!

If you had to leave this hopelessly colourful planet so early – much too fucking early – you can be sure that there are a handful – no, a considerable number – of people here who will continue what you gave the world, what you gave us artistically, and that we can now sort until we're blue in the face.
‘Feinkunst.‘ You've got it all figured out. Just add the word “art” to it. It's art.
‘Hey Mahler!’ So now I'm a member of the ‘Feinkunst e.V.’ and once again in Hannover. I thought as much. But the people I meet here are really serious about your legacy. You would probably have laughed your head off at first... but then you would have become thoughtful and maybe even serious and would have lit a fat Havana cigar, leaned back in the sofa, and behind a Cuban cloud, murmured: ‘I did it.’

Wenn Du schon diesen hoffnungslos vielfarbigen Planeten so früh – viel zu fucking früh – verlassen musstest, so kanst Du doch sicher sein, dass es hier eine Handvoll – nein eine beachtliche Anzahl von – Menschen gibt, die das fortführen, was Du der Welt, was Du uns künstlerisch vor den Latz geknallt hast und das wir jetzt sortieren dürfen bis wir schwarz werden.

hey Mahler! Da bin ich nun. Mitglied im feinkunst e.V. und mal wieder in Hannover. Ich dachte es mir schon. Aber die Menschen, die ich hier treffe, meinen es wirklich ernst mit Deinem Nachlass. Du hättest Dich womöglich erst kaputt gelacht… wärst dann aber nachdenklich und vielleicht sogar ernst geworden und hättest Dir eine dicke Havanna angesteckt, Dich im Sofa breit zurückgelehnt und hinter einer kubanischen Wolke geraunt: “Ich habs geschafft.”

THE MAHLER – Hannes Malte Mahler (1968–2016) was an artist living in Hanover. He was a graduate of the Braunschweig University of Art and a master student of Marina Abramović. His work included drawing, painting, illustration, sculpture, installation, performance and photography. In his dynamic personality, art and life were inextricably intertwined. His studio on Kronenstraße was a meeting place and an enrichment for the art and creative scene in Hannover.

THE MAHLER – Hannes Malte Mahler (1968–2016) war ein in Hannover lebender Diplomkünstler. Er war Absolvent der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig und Meisterschüler von Marina Abramović. Sein Werk umfasste u. a. Zeichnung, Malerei, Illustration, Skulptur, Installation, Performance und Fotografie. In seiner umtriebigen Persönlichkeit verbanden sich Kunst und Leben zu einer untrennbaren Einheit. Sein Studio in der Kronenstraße war ein Treffpunkt und eine Bereicherung für die Kunst- und Kreativszene Hannovers.
